This pendant depicts an egyptian cat on the front, and the ankh symbol on the reverse.
Several ancient Egyptian deities were depicted and sculptured with cat-like heads such as Mafdet, Bastet and Sekhmet, representing justice, fertility and power.
The protective function of cats is indicated in the Book of the Dead, where a cat represents Ra and the benefits of the sun for life on Earth.Because cats could protect against the tiny monsters that made Egyptian homes unsafe, Mafdet was regarded as the protector of the home– and of the kingdom itself.
The ankh symbol—sometimes referred to as the key of life or the key of the nile—is representative of eternal life in Ancient Egypt.
Created by Africans long ago, the ankh is said to be the first--or original--cross.
This pendant is about 1/2 inch in diameter, made in bronze, and plated in 18k gold.
